Tall Ships' Race

From 9 till 12 August 2008, when the VTS Symposium has concluded, Bergen harbour will be one of the host ports for the famous Tall Ships' Race sailing from Liverpool in England to Den Helder in The Netherlands. The race has taken place each year in Europe since the 1950s.

More than a hundred tall ships from over 30 countries will enter Bergen harbour in the days before the opening of the Tall Ships Race events on August 9. The fleet will include ships of sizes ranging from 30ft yachts to square rigged ships over 300 feet in length.

The opening ceremony on Saturday 9 August will welcome the tall ships' fleet, followed by several days of cultural and tourist activities. A parade of sail will take place the following Tuesday before the race continues towards The Netherlands.
