
The Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) is a government agency under the Royal Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs. The NCA is the national authority on coastal management, maritime traffic safety and preparedness against acute pollution, with a mission to ensure safe passage for ships and protect the marine environment along the Norwegian coast.
It is the responsibility of the NCA to facilitate the development of transport at sea as a functional and cost effective transport for trade and industry and ensure national preparedness against acute pollution. The services of the NCA are intended for all users of the coastal fairways, with a particular focus on commercial traffic.
The Norwegian Coastal Administration is headed by a Director General. The NCA Head Office is located in Ålesund and is the national authority on behalf of the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs. These responsibilities are distributed among the operative units; the coastal regions.
There are five coastal regions with individual operative tasks managed on behalf of the NCA Head Office:
